The New Medicine Service (NMS) aims to provide early support to patients in England who are newly prescribed a medicine for a long-term condition.

Initially the NMS involves you having a consultation with one of our pharmacists, in a private consultation room about the new medicine you have been prescribed. Our pharmacist will talk to you about the medication including how to take it and the importance of taking the medication.

This is followed by a face-to-face chat or telephone conversation 14 days later and a follow-up about a month after beginning the new medicine. Our pharmacist will help identify any problems you are experiencing with the medication and provide further information and support.

The service is free and is similar to the Medicines Use Review (MUR) which we also offer.

The NMS primarily focuses on patients with the following conditions:

  • Asthma
  • COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease),
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Or who are receiving antiplatelet/anticoagulant therapy.

The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is an NHS Service which can enable your doctor to send your prescription direct to us. We then take care of arrangements necessary to get your repeat prescriptions delivered free to your door.
